Samsung ML1910 Printer User Manual

Loaded with some excellent productivity features such as an onboard Print Screen button, Samsung's monochrome ML-1910 laser printer offers good all-round performance.

Functionality

The Samsung ML-1910 might take up slightly more desktop real estate (360 x 389 x 197 mm) than HP’s LaserJet Pro P1606dn or Oki’s Mono Printer B2200, but we think it's slightly more stylish offering than either. Its 18 ppm printing speed is a lot off the HP's 25 ppm pace though, but the quality of the text on the printouts is a bit better in our opion. It has a front pull-out paper tray which can take 250 sheets of paper and there’s another single sheet manual tray above the main paper tray for special paper sizes. The ML-1910 doesn't feature a 10/100 Ethernet port, so you won't be able to print over the network.

Smart printing features

We liked the Print Screen button that appears on the printer itself, which allows users to quickly print out the info displayed on-screen. You can press the button to print out all the information that is displayed on your monitor, or you can hold it for longer than two seconds, in order to print only the info in your active window. The latter is useful when you have a lot of windows open (like your browser, document editor and photo viewer for instance) and you only wish to print out a copy of one of these.

Once you install the driver and software on the provided installation CD, you can go to Samsung’s AnyWeb Print webpage. Here you can download (10.6 MB) the software which enables you to drag and drop content (such as diagrams and tables) from various webpages onto a blank page (with a customised layout). This saves you paper as well as toner, by enabling you to print out only the info that is required on a single sheet, as opposed to printing a lot of pages from all the websites that contain various snippets of data you need. You can also save these pages that you created in either tiff format or as a PDF document. Unfortunately it only works with Internet Explorer 6 and above, which is a serious let down.

Also on the provided CD is Samsung's Smart Panel software tool that works in the same way as the B2200's StatusMonitor software, notifying you of any status changes regarding the printer, as well as any errors concerning print jobs.

Paper Handling

The duty cycle of the ML-1910 is a good 10 000 pages per month which is 2 000 more than the P1606dn’s, but 5 000 less than the Oki. Like most of its competitors, this printer can use a multitude of paper sizes, including A4, A5, A6, letter, as well as legal. It handles a variety of media types as well, including recycled paper, envelopes, transparencies and postcards. The neat output tray has space for 80 sheets. Unlike the P1606dn, the Samsung doesn't offer automatic duplex (double-sided) printing, only catering for double-sided prints via a manual duplex mode. In this mode the first side of the document is printed out, after which you'll get a prompt to put the printed out page back in the pull-out paper tray for the other side to be printed. This works on a trail and error basis as you'll have to see whether you have to put the page back face up or down (its face up BTW) for the ML-1910 to print on the correct side. If you really want to save paper, you're better off just printing multiple pages of your document on a single printout sheet.

Samsung’s ML-1910 is easy to set up and use and stands out thanks to its stylish design and useful printing solutions such as AnyWeb Print and the Print Screen button. You can pick one up at Computer Corporation (08616-08616) for R788.
